THINGS TO DO

There is so much more to do in Norfolk and the Broads than simply boating and fishing (although of course they are great) listed below are just a few tips - if you need more ideas then please just ask!

Fishing

Boating

Cromer

Help yourself to the fishing rods on the back deck. You will definitely catch fish off the back off the deck. Simple float fishing will always work just be sure to use hooks smaller than size 16 and would advice you use barbless hooks where you can. Maggots will work as will all the other usual baits like, corns, worms etc.

There are plenty of fish species as well, Roach, Rudd, Dace, Bream, Perch and the occasional Pike - all within 10 feet of the deck!

For the larger fish if you go out on the main river you will be spoilt for choice of places to fish.

Remember to get your fishing license (online at Post Office is the easiest)

Have fun and we wish you 'tight lines'!

You don't have to hire a boat but to get the best out of your stay but you should try to get at least 1 day out on the river.

If you want to see the multi million pound houses head towards Horning. It will take you about 1hr 15 mins on the boat. Whenever we go that way within 5 mins we always find ourselves talking about the houses we would buy if we ever won the lottery!

Top Tip if you go that way the first pub you see will be The Swan - that's a great pub - but if you are uncomfortable mooring or its busy keep going and 5/10 mins later you will find the Ferry Inn - there is a lot of mooring there and often one of the local lads will be there to help you.

If you head up river to Coltishall the river has less houses but the wild life is amazing. Dependent on the time of year you can see everything from Kingfishers, Grass Snakes swimming across the river or even Otters!

A traditional fishing town, of course famous for Cromer Crabs. Really nice day out, if you do go make sure you take a crab net and head to the pier. Mary Janes for Fish and Chips is a must. Also head over to the Lifeboat Museum there is lots to see and learn.

As noted previously you can easily catch the train to Cromer if you fancy giving the car a rest!

Great Yarmouth

Bewilderwood

Norwich

A must see if you have children (old and young!). All the usual Sea Side action and everything from the model village complete with its new miniature Banksy and of course the Pleasure Beach theme park (for 3 to 5 year olds Funland is the place to head to by the Pier). Also give the crazy golf a go or take the ferry out to see the seals!

Award winning forest of family fun and outdoor adventure. Treehouses, Wobbly Wires, Slippery Slopes, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat rides, marsh walks- you will need a rest after this one!

This is only 5 mins away from the cottage!

Norwich is only a 12 minute drive from the Cottage. Plenty of history to see as well as a bustling market and plenty of good pubs and restaurants. Lots of great shopping.

This is another trip when you can easily jump on the train from Hoveton and Wroxham.

BEACHES

There are too many great beaches to list here but needless to say there are beaches to suit everyone ranging from the huge sandy beaches of Great Yarmouth all the way through to Winterton Beach (35 mins away) where you will find a colony of seals!

There are also plenty of dog friendly beaches.

BOAT TRIPS

There are lots of day boat rentals in Wroxham - they are all very good. However top tip is to book a boat early - if you leave it to the last minute you may miss out.

CYCLING

Plenty of cycle trains in an around Wroxham for you to enjoy please take a look at https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/out-and-about-in-norfolk/norfolk-trails/cycle-routes .

GOLF

3 great courses within a 25min drive of the Cottage. Try Sprowston Manor which is only 10mins away!

WATERSPORTS

Beyond the traditional ay boats that you can hire there is everything from Canadian Canoes, Paddle Boards and even floating bikes that can be hired in Wroxham.

WALKING

The walking opportunities in Norfolk are endless passing through historic sites, the National Park itself and spectacular coast line. Visit www.norfolk.gov.uk for all the maps and info.
